Why & How to achieve the perfect wash n go (for 4c hair)

Why do I like wash n gos?

  1. They are a way to wear my hair out without worrying too much about how to style will last
  2. Can style it in different ways
  3. It is easier to wash my hair because a wash n go usually keeps the tangles away (if done and maintained properly)
  4. They are the least time consuming in the morning.

Problems when wearing a wash n go

  1. If you are not careful, your hair can get tangled
  2. The shrinkage is real
  3. You can get a lot of frizz
  4. They can be diificult to achieve, especially for people with a hair type like mine.

Don’t worry in this post, I will show you how to achieve a wash n go that will last you a whole week, that is tangle and frizz free and also little shrinkage.

First, you will need good products. Everyone has their own secret combinations but mine are simple. I used Aunt Jackie flaxseed gel (leave in optional) in the past and now I used Ziphlets styling cream. These two are the only ones that have worked for me.

Using Ziphlets styling cream:

This has been the best way for me. I tried flaxseed gel on its own and that just did not work for me. The flaxseed was difficult to work with and it would flake, badly, because it was difficult to work it into the hair. So this styling cream was the solution to this

To get the best results:

  1. Apply on clean damp to dry (yes, that’s right) hair. The hair is better off more dry than damp, buy not completely dry. The best way to do this is to wrap your hair in a cotton shirt after

Using gel:

If you choose to use normal gel, the only one I would recommend is aunt Jackie Flaxseed gel. You can try the coconut one as Aunt Jackies lines a re all the same thing, but I haven’t used it before.

I have used other gels (the cheap green ones, you know which ones I mean) before but this one is the only one that did not leave my hair feeling sticky and did not attract dust to my hair (Try to avoid green coloured gels at all costs, yes I am saying it again).

To get the best results:

  1. Wet your hair completely
  2. Now apply your leave in or oil
  3. Take a small section of hair (small coils are easier to define this way)
  4. Then apply a GENEROUS amount of gel onto hair and rack until curls form

This is the only way that this has worked for me. It will take HOURS to dry. I went to sleep with wet hair after styling it at 10am. So proceed with caution.
